Ondo Finance is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that aims to democratize access to institutional-grade finance. Ondo Finance operates through a governance process that typically follows a two-stage process: a forum discussion and an on-chain vote. The DAO parameters are set to ensure a fair and efficient governance process. The proposal threshold, voting period, quorum, and timelock are all integral parts of the governance process. ONDO token holders can exercise control over the protocol, including economic parameters and smart contract upgrades, through on-chain governance proposals. The DAO may also elect committees or multisigs to manage certain processes, such as updating certain economic parameters or pausing the protocol in critical times.

Ondo Finance seeks to usher in a new era of financial inclusivity and market efficiency through on-chain institutional-grade financial products and services. It aims to advance the adoption of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) and their use in on-chain financial protocols. The Ondo Foundation also focuses on increasing public understanding of the ecosystem and the benefits of asset tokenization. Furthermore, it oversees a treasury to facilitate strategic ecosystem growth, issues governance tokens, deploys protocol smart contracts, and hosts web applications for certain platforms in the ecosystem.

A pivotal moment in its history was the lifting of restrictions on transferring the ONDO token on January 18, 2024, following a decisive vote by the DAO. This decision not only unlocked the token but also established a structured distribution schedule for the ONDO token, aligning with the community's consensus. The Ondo Foundation, a Cayman Islands Foundation Company, was established with a mission to support the goals of Ondo Finance. The foundation has no beneficial owners and is specifically focused on several key areas to support the growth and development of the Ondo Finance ecosystem.
