Basic Attention Token was launched in 2017 following a highly successful initial coin offering (ICO) that raised $35 million in under a minute. The project was founded by Brendan Eich and Brian Bondy, both highly experienced in the internet browsing software industry. Eich, the CEO of Brave Software, Inc., is the inventor of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla and Firefox. Bondy, the CTO of Brave and BAT, has extensive experience as a software engineer at Mozilla and other companies. Since its launch, BAT has rolled out its attention-based advertising experience to users in most countries through its Brave Rewards program.
